I have always loved good bread, bretzels, croissants and other pastries. After moving to the USA, I started to miss good bakeries and real German bread. I started to look for the best bakeries in Chicago that offer authentic bread and pastries similar to the ones in Europe.

Let me tell you that this definitely was not easy. Europeans just know their thing and are so good at making delicious bread and croissants. But after checking out lots of places I have created a list for you guys where you can find yummy bread and pastries in Chicago.

Here are the best bakeries to try in Chicago:

Hendrickx Belgian Bread Crafter

Hendrickx Bakery is probably my top choice for croissants! They have plain croissants, almond croissants, pistachio croissants, chocolate croissants and even gryere cheese croissants! They also have the yummy pastry called Canele. If you have not tried Canele yet you are missing out. The bread at Hendrickx is also so good!

Address: 100 E Walton St #105, Chicago, IL 60611

Good Ambler

The place is located in the West loop and offers pastries, cakes, chocolate and coffee. It is a super cute place to hang out and have a coffee date at. Very spacious and nice interior. I personally like their Kouign Amann and croissants!

Address: 216 N Peoria St, Chicago, IL 60607

La Fournette

Another great bakery in town located in the Old town. The baguettes, danish and croissants are really good! And they also have macaroons that are fantastic! They also offer tasty sandwiches, quiches and crepes for lunch. Make sure to check them out while in Chicago.

Address: 1547 N Wells St, Chicago, IL 60610

Aya Bakery

What I absolutely love about Aya is that they actually have breakfast buns, something that is not very typical in the USA. In Germany a typical breakfast always has buns from the bakery and you eat them with cheese, spreads and salami. Aya offers ciabatta buns which is amazing. I also love their croissants, cakes and coconut buns! So good!

Address: 1332 W Grand Ave, Chicago, IL 60642

Pan Artesanal Bakery

Another bakery that a bunch of different pastries and sandwiches is Pan Artesanal. Make sure to put this place on your list!

Address: 3724 W Fullerton Ave, Chicago, IL 60647

Beatrix

Beatrix is one of my favorite go-to restaurants in town and super close by where I live which is why I love going there as well. They also have a bakery inside the restaurant and offer a variety of yummy pastries. They offer cakes, muffins and cookies. My personal favorite is the coconut macaroon!

Address: 519 N Clark St, Chicago, IL 60654
